The Heathland Centre at Lygra

 



50 km north of Bergen, is an information centre for coastal heathlands. More than four km of paths take you around the historic landscape of the coast which has not changed in 5000 years. Today the European heathlands are rapidly disappearing, more than 90% has already gone due to cultivation, pollution and growth of shrubs and trees.  On the island of Lygra the heathlands are preserved through traditional land use.
